When it is time to hand over the keys to your new teen driver for the first time, safety is a top priority. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety helps you choose the ideal vehicle for your young driver with the 2020 Safe Vehicles for Teens list, which features the best-used models for both price and safety. The Chevrolet Equinox models from 2016 and on were chosen for their affordability and good crash test results.
To earn its place on this list, the Chevrolet Equinox had to receive an acceptable or good rating in the IIHS driver-side small overlap front test, and good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests.
The Equinox needed to earn four or five stars overall, and four or five stars in the front and side tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Consumer Reports needed to give the Equinox a score of three out of five or higher for its emergency handling capability.
The Equinox met all of these requirements, and earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick award for the 2020 model year.* It’s also equipped with safety systems like Teen Driver mode, which is perfect for customizing different features and settings in order to teach your young driver safe habits on the road.
